The metaverse and Web3 redefines our world – Bill Schacht
Our Immersive Experience Creator class met with Bill Schacht, CXO and Founder of ORB Immersive and a leader in immersive media production and strategy – to learn how immersive media can be used hands-on in projects and for the greater good.
Of course, we wanted to seize this opportunity to ask some questions about where we are heading next in the buzzing world of VR, AR, and XR!
Why should we care about “the metaverse”?
“The metaverse, coupled with what is currently falling into a bucket termed Web3, will redefine key parts of the global world order.”
“Who ‘wins’ which areas will make a difference in how much of it is just reheated Old World Order stuff (the powers that be—Oil, War for Money, Exploitation, Greed, etc) or what I call OUR World Order, where there is more justice, empathy, passion and love built in to the systems.
It’s far from just me who sees that—HTC Vive did a brilliant campaign recently highlighting bits of that.”
When will we see immersive media become mainstream media?
“We’re in the midst of the very beginning of the boom. Facebook rebranding as Meta took a lot of people by surprise, when people see the solutions that team is developing, it will be a massive uptick.”
“Apple’s XR release will be another major accelerator, if not THE accelerator, look for some news in their June developer conference. Fortnite/Unreal are already leading the way and with the 2 billion dollar SONY/Lego deal, and others, show they are only just getting started.
They seem to care about the Our World Order stuff as well—we’ll see.”
What opportunities are there for people that look to enter the world of immersive media today?
“I think the opportunities are massive. And schools like Changemaker Educations and Futuregames play a critical role in leading the way. I was honored to be asked to comment on some immersive media pieces students there made recently, and, was blown away.”
“Was thrilled to be invited back to do a half day lecture. I think most if not all of that class will move on to make a big impact, including some of tomorrow’s top CXO’s (chief extended reality officers)–aside from all the shiny XR hardware, software etc., strategy need be the coin of the realm for companies in this space—the metaverse in NOT simple when you get past the surface.
The wrong strategy could significantly damage a company, while the right strategy will make major differences. Media is migrating from the flat world to the full world, and, these students will be the mapmakers.”
We’re excited to follow future projects from Bill Schacht, especially the upcoming Shockholm 360/VR Live Stream later this year, where our school and head teacher Jesper Wallerborg will also play a role.
