futuregames q&a
“I gained the tools to understand the industry I aimed for and how to acquire the knowledge needed to get there. Without the program, I wouldn’t have known where or what to focus on”
Viktor Andersson
Viktor currently works at King – New Games Studio.
– I currently work at Vattenfall’s Customer & Sales division. I am part of the Business Innovation and Strategy unit, in the Agile and Project Management Team 1. My role is a combination of agile and sequential project management. In this capacity, I am responsible for leading strategic and complex projects across the Nordic region. This involves planning, organizing, and overseeing projects to ensure they deliver value and results aligned with the company’s strategic goals and customer needs.
What does a typical day at your job look like?
– Each morning, I start by catching up on all emails and messages. Then I attend morning meetings with the various teams I work with. After that, I plan upcoming research, analyze results from previous studies, or prepare findings for a team presentation. After lunch, there might be meetings on everything from workshops, kick-offs, and design syncs to global company meetings. The work is so diverse that every day can look different, both within my teams and through assisting with other projects in need of support.
What do you appreciate most about your work?
– I’d say the social aspect is something I truly value, being a central figure in the team and working with everyone—stakeholders, designers, developers, artists, and more. Besides that, I get to work directly with users, whether through in-person or remote studies, allowing me to connect with all kinds of people. I also get to influence design decisions in the projects I work on by communicating users’ real experiences and identifying where there’s a mismatch with the intended design. It’s equally important to highlight what’s working well, so teams know what to focus on during sprints.
How has the Experience Designer program been useful in your current role?
–The program primarily gave me a foundation to understand what I wanted from it—what I wanted to do in the UX field and to comprehend the various roles under the “UX umbrella”. This way, I gained the tools to understand the industry I aimed for and how to acquire the knowledge needed to get there. Without the program, I wouldn’t have known where or what to focus on.
What are the biggest challenges in your work?
– The biggest personal challenge for me has been improving my foresight and learning to structure it relative to the teams I work with, so I can juggle many tasks. I’m a naturally spontaneous person, so this has been something I’ve worked on a lot and continue to work on.
What challenges do you foresee for your role in the future?
– I think AI is the biggest challenge, but it also means I have to keep up with developments. I think this is true for most tech professions. What I’ve learned so far is that AI is an incredible asset to our work, so I would say it’ll be challenging for those who choose not to use it. But for empathy—a big part of UX—AI is still inferior to humans!
What new opportunities do you see for your role in the future?
– UX Research/Design is valuable no matter what it’s applied to, both in the digital and physical world. Everything offered, sold, or used always has an end-user. If it doesn’t consider the user, it’s almost always a poor product. UX is the bridge between design and the human experience, so it will always be relevant. Plus, if you decide to transition to another role, UX is a fantastic skill that can be applied anywhere.
– The possibilities are endless—the world deserves better UX!
