Futuregames q&A

Game Programmer student

Without joining Futuregames, I would not have had this experience or tasted victory!

Kamila Kuźmiuk

Kamila discovered the magic and escapism of games early in life.
– My dad taught me how to play when I was a child. Since then, I’ve always competed in games with my brother, which is why I love playing them. Games give me the opportunity to escape from reality and immerse myself in another world where I am not deaf.

The aspiration to join the gaming industry was also formed at an early stage.
– Once, when I was little, my brother and I were talking about creating games – Hero and Villain, typical, but we also came up with the idea that we wanted to create games in sign language, without speech. We created a game script and dreamed that in the future we would create games that could only be played in sign language. This was the beginning of my interest in working in the gaming industry.

“I finally saw my chance”

After facing constant rejections, Kamila decided to apply to Futuregames Warsaw. However, she wasn’t very hopeful about being admitted.
– Honestly, I didn’t have many opportunities. I applied to various courses, but unfortunately, they all rejected me because I’m deaf. I’ve been struggling with this for over a year, and it’s been exhausting. When I saw the Futuregames ads and decided to apply, I thought I wouldn´t be accepted as usual. What a shock when they were ready to accept me! I finally saw my chance, and thanks to Futuregames, my dreams came true and became a reality.

What has been the highlight while studying at Futuregames?

– My favorite thing is making games – the game projects. I really felt like I was working for a company, and it was my first time working with a group. It taught me a lot, and I never felt disrespected or left out. Also, when I joined Futuregames, I was encouraged to take part in the “Jam Games” competition across Poland. I decided to participate and, to my surprise, my team and I took 3rd place. It was an amazing experience, and I am grateful to Futuregames for giving me this opportunity. Without joining Futuregames, I would not have had this experience or tasted victory!

“Futuregames allows me to deepen my knowledge and skills”

Kamila acknowledges that there have been obstacles to overcome, but overall, the experience has been truly fulfilling.
– The obstacles I have faced are communication with the team, because sometimes everyone talks and doesn’t notice my comments. However, that has improved now. The education at Futuregames allows me to deepen my knowledge and skills as a developer to shape the future of games, taking into account the diversity and needs of all players. Additionally, I receive support from the Futuregames staff. I can always turn to them, and they give me suggestions for the future. Kamila has her goals set and a clear vision on her future within the gaming world:
– My main goals include continuous improvement in the field of programming and game development, as well as active participation in creating the world of games, including sign language. My dream and long-term aspiration is to make my games more distinctive, unique and playable! No speech, only sign language and yes – there will be subtitles!
