Futuregames back at Tekniska
Another great playtest at Tekniska! The first-year students at Futuregames in Stockholm and Karlstad showcased their first game project at Tekniska Museet (The Museum of Technology) in Stockholm to 90 children.
Playtest for Game Project 1
“It’s an indescribable feeling for a game designer to receive that kind of feedback!
Angelina Kolovou, Game Designer
The students brief for Game Project 1 was to design and implement a PC game for pre-teens (9-12 years old) with possible functional variations, with “Science” as theme.
10 games from 140 Futuregames students
The project resulted in 10 games with about 140 students involved from 4 different educations: Game Designer, Game Programmer, Game Artist and VFX & Animation.
– The kids are adorable, says Elie Tsamouli, international Game Designer student, and they are really good at playing games! I love that they are honest, they truly give us good feedback. This is what we do: creating experiences. At the end of the day, it’s about having fun and being part of something bigger, so I am really happy being here today. Making games for kids is a whole different experience; they are very forgiving when it comes to difficulties during gameplay. They just want to have fun – they really get into the experience more than adults do.
“An indescribable feeling for a game designer!”
The 90 playtesters – some in Halloween costumes – came from Mariehällsskolan, Martinskolan, Fredrikshovs slotts skola and Metapontum in the Stockholm area. We were thrilled to once again use Xbox Game Studios Publishing adaptive controllers – allowing even more kids to play!
– It’s been so much fun, says Angelina Kolovou, Game Designer. We students are always very nervous about how people will feel when playing our games. But coming here and seeing kids wanting to try the games, having fun while doing it, and maybe even going to fetch other friends to come back and play them again… it’s an indescribable feeling for a game designer to receive that kind of feedback!
– It’s mostly positive feedback, but they are also very good at telling us what they want and what they don’t like. We greatly appreciate that, it has really helped us determine which direction to take with the game.
Thanks to Futuregames partners!
Futuregames would like to thank Linda Sandberg from Tekniska Museet for making this possible. And of course, to our other partners UX designer for children Chris Lindgren, Petra Tell, Xbox Nordics & Benelux Communication Lead at Microsoft and Frida Löwenadler, Xbox Social & Community Lead Nordics.
